Jane Freeman, born Clara Jane Freeman in 1871 in Chesterfield England, was a prominent female portrait artist in the United States. Her studio for many years was in the Beaux Arts Studios in Carnegie Hall and she owned a cottage in the artist colony in Rockport, MA for 30 years. For more information on Jane Freeman go here.

This was originally entitled Motherhood and featured in a Mother’s Day magazine feature but was subsequently submitted to suffrage contest with the title “Future Voter.”

Jane supported her sister’s suffrage campaigns and was a model of “an independent woman” supporting herself through her painting for her whole life. She promoted her art by selling artwork to magazines, participating in contests, and speaking about art in a radio show.

A blog post on this is here.
